Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)
NLP looks at the way in which we think and process our thoughts ("neuro"), the language patterns we use ("linguistic") and our behaviours ("programming") and how these interact to have a positive (or negative) effect on us as individuals.
So What Does NLP Have To Do With My Website?
Website content and the way it’s written has always been an extremely important part of building your website, it has to be compelling and persuasive. However many people find the process of writing quality, search engine optimised content extremely difficult. Add to this the objective of making sure the copy delivers the RIGHT message(s) in the RIGHT way and it can make the task seem almost impossible.
Writing professional website copy that delivers all of the above is a balancing act which takes expertise, time and effort. If done well the results can be immensely rewarding. Well written, focussed, message driven content attracts and keeps site visitors and the search engines coming back and will greatly benefit your business.
By using subtle NLP business techniques, the content can be written to appeal to everyone, regardless of whether the reader's learning style is visual, auditory or kinesthetic. Visual learners have a preference for seeing (think in pictures; visual aids such as overhead slides, diagrams, handouts, etc.). Auditory learners best learn through listening (lectures, discussions, tapes, etc). Tactile/kinesthetic learners prefer to learn via experience—moving, touching, and doing (active exploration of the world; science projects; experiments, etc).
Making sure you appeal to as many readers as possible is important in any marketing communication that you write because if you only write to appeal to one type of person, you immediately lose two thirds of your audience.
Applying NLP to your website content/message should be a serious consideration for all website owners.
